As part of BART's smart growth strategy, the BART Board of Directors expressed an interest in developing the parking lot at Glen Park Station. On December 23, 2008, BART issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to develop the 27,400 square foot parking lot at our Glen Park Station. The lot, located at Bosworth and Arlington Streets in San Francisco, is being made available for development under a long-term ground lease arrangement.
BART is seeking a developer who will collaborate with the City of San Francisco, the Glen Park community, San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency and BART to first determine the feasibility of development in the Glen Park Station area, then formulate a plan of action to transform the BART property into an exciting transit-oriented development that benefits the community, the City and BART.
Like many of the development partnerships that BART has entered, the RFQ for Glen Park includes the Board's interest in creating housing at this site, including "predominantly, but not exclusively, affordable units;" however, ultimate land use decisions remain under the jurisdiction of the City of San Francisco. We want the public to be aware that community input is a significant part of the land use entitlement process. In addition, BART intends to select a developer who would vigorously interact with the Glen Park community before suggesting any land use plan for this site.
