Envisioning New Open Space in the Mission:
Proposed Park Site at 17th and Folsom

As part of the implementation of the recently adopted Eastern Neighborhoods Plans, this visioning process will focus on an opportunity site in an underserved area of the Mission District at 17th & Folsom Streets, currently owned by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) and operated as a surface parking lot. The Planning Department, Recreation & Park Department and the Mayor’s Office of Housing have partnered to explore acquisition of the site from the PUC to build a neighborhood serving park and affordable housing development.

Process and Timeline

A brief series of public workshops will help develop a preliminary conceptual design of the park space, including major recreation features and support amenities. This conceptual design will support the City’s application for an upcoming state grant that could provide funding for the acquisition and construction of the park portion of the site. Because the deadline for this grant application is approaching, the community planning process must occur within a very tight timeline. Below is a draft timeline of the community planning process, which will develop a conceptual design for the park. Keep checking this website; we’ll update it as information becomes available.
