The
Work of Partners and Others
The
Planning Department has a long history of leadership in city
design. The early work on the
bellwether Urban Design Plan, the first in the nation, remains
the foundation of the City’s General Plan; the
groundbreaking work of Donald Appleyard on livable streets;
and the Downtown Plan, to name just a few.
But the Planning Department
is not alone in thoughtful work in public realm design and
planning. Others are involved in efforts to create
a gracious public realm.
